Types of fish

Red Drum

Red drum also known as red fish , channel bass, puppy drum, spottails, or just simply reds. they are North Carolina's state saltwater fish. Red drums are strong fighters and very additive to catch, they are very tasty to eat.

Sheepshead

Sheepshead the fish with human teeth.  sheepshead are similar to black drums, they live in the same areas and have the same diet but are no way related to them. Sheepshead can grow to big sizes the worlds biggest is more than 21 lbs  caught near New Orleans in 1982 North Carolina's is 19 lbs

Trout

Speckled trout are seasonal bites, although they can be caught year round. They run like crazy when the water starts to cool down. They live in shallow grassy waters in all of the inshore waters and downtown wilmington cape fear river. Trout are ambush predators closely related to red drum.

Black Drum

Black drums are related to red drums but have very different eating habits. They live near docks, oyster beds, just like red drums, They are very strong fighters and very good to eat . When a black drum is caught they have a very distinct drumming sound.

Flounder

In southeastern North Carolina, we have 2 types of flounder. Southern and summer flounder, both go after the same type of bait and both live in the shallows. They lay flat on the seafloor and wait for bait or lures to swim past it or over it .
